Sponsorship Guide
WHY SUPPORT ACTION SPORTS?
1. We give kids a competitive pathway, in sport, and in life!
And they need it:
-
Only 40% of youth report their mental health as excellent or very good.
-
Youth and young adults are facing higher levels of financial, personal, and social pressures than previous generations.
AASA's programming, positive and enthusiastic coaching and mentoring, provided in stable, year-round gathering and riding facilities go a long way to helping young people face those challenges. The programs and facilities are preventative and supportive. They help prevent young people being overwhelmed by life, and support them when things get tough.
Summer camps get them together to build friendships and learn valuable skills, especially perseverance and determination.
Lessons and classes put them in a mentorship position where coaches who care about them provide instruction and encouragement. Coaches are constantly telling riders, "Good job!"
Birthday parties are natural and fun gathering events that help develop vital social skills; riding indoors with friends a blast as well.
Public riding brings together adults and youth, boys and girls, men and women, who ride bikes, skateboards, scooters, and inline skates -- all with different riding cultures. This is a great opportunity to learn to mix well with people with different views.
Competitions provide challenging opportunities, milestones, and goals, driving home the importance of hard work leading to success.
Science has long ago proven that physical activity alone:
-
helps fight depression & addiction
-
builds confidence
-
reduces feelings of hopelessness
-
helps people succeed through the stresses of life.
Indoor action sports facilities provide a critical component of establishing a community of like-minded youth and young adults. Without a place to gather, there is no community.
Plus, with over 20 annual events throughout Alberta, AASA gives young people activities and events to look forward to, to work towards. They progress individually as riders, and they learn to encourage others in their own development.
AASA's greatest financial need is to maintain a comfortable, modern, bright place where young people passionate about action sports can gather, ride, progress, and connect. For that, we rely on our Sponsors to cover costs of rent and utilities, about $500,000 per year. The remainder of AASA's programming and activities are self-sustaining.

What We Do
AASA promotes action sports participation by organizing competitions, jamborees, and other events. The goal is to provide a pathway all the way to Olympic and other International level competition for top riders, but it all starts at the bottom, encouraging young riders to just have fun!
WE partner with municipalities, businesses, and national and international sport organizations to provide meaningful riding opportunities for all who are interested, including those with few opportunities to play sports. Our coaches teach tiny young beginners and inspire progressing riders to strive to reach their potential.
AASA also supports two of Alberta's favourite indoor parks -- House of Wheels Edmonton and House of Wheels Calgary. These facilities function just like a Rec Center--but without the swimming pool and basketball courts. Your support helps make it all happen.
